• Question: Do you think we will continue to evolve to a completely different mammal in loads of years time?

      hard to say… given a few million years i’d have thought so. *but* evolution works by ensuring that the ‘best’ adaptations breed and survive. And now that we have excellent medicine, almost everyone survives long enough to breed. Plus, it’s not clear what ‘best’ means in the modern world. In the past, ‘best’ physically/mentally normally also meant the most powerful (since these got to mate with the most people) – but nowadays (since the startof contraception), the world’s elite tend to have fewer children than average… so that link is broken. (and i’m not saying that the world’s elite are the ‘best’)…

      so I don’t know what major evolutionary pressure exists that would change how many babies we had enough to influence evolution… does that make sense?
