      good question!

      nails are made of the same stuff our hair is made of (keratin) and new nail cells are grown in the nail root (which below the cuticle of your nails) – as these new nails are grown, they push up the existing nail cells. When the cells reach the surface of the skin, they harden (becoming the nails we can see) and they keep getting pushed further and further by the new cells being made…
