The retina is an area of light-sensitive cells that form a layer over the inside of your eye. The cells are called ‘rods’ and ‘cones’ and absorb light so that you can see. Rod cells absorb dim like whereas cone cells absorb bright light. These cells are linked to your brain by nerve cells – when light is detected messages are sent to your brain which are then analysed and turned into an image!
