  We can’t yet make artificial eyes, reattaching severed nerves is very difficult. Especially when they carry such important information.
  
  However we can already make artificial lenses to replace cataracts, and some people are currently working on making artificial corneas out of collagen gels.

Question: could you have fake eyes and reuse them after you die or implant them into a blind person and let them see? Or something along those lines...
