That’s a good question – they are testing some robots for performing surgery right now! Robots are good in that they can do things more precisely than humans can and can be made very dainty to hold smaller scalpels and needles for doing very delicate surgery… but robots are less good in that they can’t react if something goes wrong or if things aren’t as expected… surgeons try to find out as much as possible about their surgery before they do it by looking at x-rays and other images from inside their patients, but these aren’t perfect so it’s always a bit of an unkonwn once you’re actually operating on someone!
I think probably there will be more robots used for surgery in the future, but always with experienced surgeons there to guide the surgery and to take over if necessary…
