when a baby is almost grown, they will shift in the mother’s womb so that their heads point downwards… labour is triggered somehow (it’s still being researched, but many people think it’s due to a change in the hormone oxytocin (also known as the love hormone!) in the mother) – then the mother’s womb starts to contract slowly opening the cervix (this is the muscle that keeps the bottom of the womb closed while the baby is developing!)… when the cervix is stretched open enough, the womb starts to contract more strongly and the mother will push the baby out headfirst from how womb, through her vagina and into the world…
