Bacteira grow on your skin all the time. They are everywhere, but you don’t get sick from them!
Bacteria can only infect your skin if you get a cut, graze or burn that damages the skins outer layer. Once the skin is damaged the bacteria can enter your skin cells that are deeper and multiply (as there is plenty of water and food for them).Once there they can do quite a bit of damage!
