      Hi Becky,

I don’t think anyone can tell someone whether should keep a baby – it’s something a woman needs to decide for herself. But, I would say that having a baby very young makes life a lot harder – it’s harder to finish your education (which makes it then harder to find an interesting job, which makes it harder to have an interesting life)… it’s also hard to see your friends go out and have lots of fun when you have really important responsibilities as a mother and your baby needs to come first which means you can’t do what you want to do. And the nice thing about growing up and leaving school is that finally you *do* get a chance to make your own decisions and do what you like – and having a child means that actually you should do what’s best for your child.

To be honest, I think every teenage girl should watch MTV’s 16 and Pregnant! It does show pretty clearly what it’s like to have a baby as a teenager – every situation is different, but it’s a really honest look from the teen mum’s perspective of what it’s actually like.

I can’t improve on Christina’s answer, so I’ll just agree with it. No one can tell you if you should or should not, some women find that they just can’t abort, even though they agree with the right to choose, and that’s perfectly understandable. My advice if you find yourself making this decision is to speak with family members, or other people you trust who have children. Get them to tell you how hard it is, and ask yourself if you could do what they had to while still finishing your education and working.
