• Question: When designing the body for the F1 cars, what's the first step?

      Hi there!

      The first step is to take the existing car parts (we call this the ‘baseline’) and we try to make it better. There’s lot of things we can do but firstly I check the rulebook to see how big the parts can be. All of the team work to the same rules and this makes sure that all of the cars are roughly the same size and shape.

      Sometimes we we want bigger bodywork parts and sometimes we want smaller parts, but the first step is always to check the rules because, like with any task, you need to know the limits before you can find a practical design.
