• Question: Why did my hair used to be bright blonde but now its dark blonde, what's happened to my genes?

      Hair is made dark by the molecule melanin that is produced at the bottom of your hair in cells. Blonde people’s hair cells produce hair with less melanin than those with darker hair.
      You’re right that your hair colour is determined by your gene! Your hair gets darker as you get older because some of the expression of your genes can can change as you get older – I.e. some of your genes get turned on and off at different times!
