Snoring is caused by having a blocked nose or throat, so air can’t pass properly when you breathe. The noise is made by air passing over the the soft parts at the back of your throat (like your tonsils and the roof of your mouth) when you are asleep.
The best tips I can give you all try to make your throat and nose more open to air. If your dad loses some weight is may help, and there are also mouth guards and nose strips that keep your airways open. Hope that helps!
