There are sort of two answers to this!

The first answer is that men have more of a hormone called testosterone in their bodies than women. Testosterone increases the amount of muscle you have in your body, and it’s muscles that make you strong and generally the more muscle you have the stronger you are…

The second question is why men have more testorsterone… people think this is because of evolution – men evolved to be hunters and fighters to protect their women and children (when women were having children most years of their fertile life they just didn’t have the opportunity to become hunters/fighters in the same way as men) … so women would choose to mate with stronger men because strength is an advantage in hunting and fighting. By choosing to mate with the strongest men, over time men became stronger. When men chose women to mate with, strength wasn’t as important a consideration and so there was less drive for women to become strong.

In some things though women *are* stronger than men – they have a higher tolerance for pain and also have more fat in their bodies – which means they do better without food!
